Cleaners protest at GS London HQ

Cleaners protested at Goldman's London HQ yesterday. Interestingly the protestors aren't even cleaners in Goldman's building, but rather, they are part of one of the largest cleaning companies, ISS. Apparently a private equity firm affiliated with GS bought out ISS last year. Protestors said their pay and benefits were too low.

Parsons thinks Icahn was a positive influence on TWX's stock

Interesting article in the NY Post regarding Parsons and Carl Icahn's influence on Time Warner. It seems that with all of the back-and-forth between Icahn and TWX, Icahn made out okay and Parsons appreciates the impetus.

Two brokerage house regulators to combine

This deal has been in the works for the past few months, but it seems like now it's finally official. The National Association of Security Dealers and the NYSE's regulating organization are combining forces. It seems that the two had been doing very similar tasks and auditing the same brokerage houses, so the merger seems practical.

2 Deals This Morning: Equity Office & NDAQ - LSE

Two deals of interest this morning. The NASDAQ deal is not definitive.

Blackstone buying Equity Office for $19billion (excluding debt)

"When including debt, the deal is valued at $36 billion, which tops the previous biggest leveraged buyout under this measure -- the $33 billion buyout of hospital operator HCA Inc. earlier this year. Excluding debt, the HCA deal was worth $21 billion."

NASDAQ ups its offer for the London Stock Exchange to $5.1 billion.

"New York-based Nasdaq offered 1243 pence ($23.56) a share, the minimum bid it could make under City of London takeover rules, compared to Friday's closing price of 1218 pence."

Bloomberg predicts bonuses at 5 investment banks

It's been a while since I've last posted. Look out for a new ChiBus column this week.

An interesting article from Bloomberg included predictions of where bonuses will come in at the pure-play investment banks (it's easier to compute bonuses at the ibanks without commercial banking).
